This is the greatest tiller ever made. It starts the first pull every time, digs through the hardest clay and rocky soil, burns very little fuel and very light weight. I love it, coming from someone who only used a 2 stroke tiller. However there are a few thing you must do to prevent future failure -The oil needs to be changed very frequently (2.7 oz) -The air filter is very sensitive, wet down the area to prevent dust.Use ethanol free gas, drain the tank and run dry after each season, the carb is also very sensitive to dirty / dirty gas.

This is an excellent small tiller. I wanted a small tiller that was lightweight enough that I could pick it up and carry it around. My tomato patch is raised about a foot and I have to pick the tiller up and sit it upon my patch. This is my second Honda FG110. I had the previous one for 8 years and it always started without fail (usually on the 2nd or 3rd pull).

I was digging in very hard dirt and stripped some rivets out in the transmission (which I intend to repair when I get time). The tines have 6 points on them (instead of 4) and this tiller will dig down as much as 6'. It is very economical on gas. Obviously, I love this tiller or I wouldn't have purchased another one just like it.

I live in the high desert (more accurately, steppe terrain). It is arid and plant material does not readily breakdown. This creates A LOT of thatch.

The optional dethatching attachment worked very well and the optional aerator worked well enough for my kind of soil. I figure the entire set-up will pay for itself within two years (vs landscape crews). The power from the tiny engine is astounding to me - and nothing I own with an internal combustion engine (lots of stuff including including a $47K pushbutton start Toyota) starts easier.

Also, the fuel economy is great (using hi-test methanol-free gasoline). It's a little beast and loads of fun! Right up there with my three stage snowblower that warns people to stay back 75'. I needed a small tiller to use to help control the weeks in my large garden. I have a large tiller that I use behind my tractor but I needed something smaller to use, also.

I bought the Honda brand because I know Honda makes a good product. It was a little more expensive than others I had looked at but decided on paying a little more for good quality. The tiller was easy to set up and use. Used it within a couple of hours after purchasing it. It did exactly what I had intended it for. Easy to use and did a great job.

As a 67 year old gardener, finding machinery that is easy to use and START is very important. The FG110 is light enough for me to manhandle and usually starts on first or second pull. I have two small criticisms and suggest these as improvements for future production.

The icons to show the choke on/off positioning could be more explicit. Also the engine shut off switch on the left handle seems to be too easily knocked into the off position.

This causes the engine to shut off when it is not expected to and/or creates a 'no start' situation that is puzzling until you remember to look for that switch. Just a brush of the arm can move the switch. Otherwise this is an excellent buy! I have a 12X25 ft garden.

I got tired of turning the soil by hand and did not want to store a large tiller. I read reviews and decided to take a chance for $350. There is nothing to assembly except unfolding the handle, adding oil that is included and adding gas. Tiller is very easy to start.

One pull is all that is needed after you prime the gas. Tiller at first appears to be a little to light.

If you hit hard ground it will tend to bounce but if you pull back a little, it will dig in. You just have to experiment. Only time will tell how long this will last but I have never had a problem with a Honda motor. I decided to purchase the Honda unit after researching and reading numerous reviews on multiple mini tillers/cultivators. It seemed to be the best option for my intended use. I own a comparable Craftsman tiller that has failed.

This tiller was easily put into service right out of the box. It's performance is superior to the Craftsman. It's easy to start and cut through some clay soil with no problem. It's relatively light weight is also a plus.

Sure it's new and I've only used it once but I'm very impressed and pleased. Was a little skeptical when I bought it as a replacement for my 24' 30-yr old heavier tiller(which finally broke it's transmission.). I knew I had a good produce as far as the Honda name but just wondered if it could work as hard as the former machine. After doing the setup as per the instruction book, I started her up and was happy at how quiet it idled.

Starting the tilling process and it seemed to pick up right were the other.stopped. The ground was a little 'damp' in spots but it managed to power right through.never complained and never slowed down. Was able to reach the same depth as my former (heavier) machine with a little technique. Book recco's to pull back a little after it digs in and do this back-and-forth which seemed to work well. Tho it only has a 9' width it is a very willing machine and owing to it's 4 tines it chopped right down through the soil and mulch I had thrown on the garden bed prior to starting.

Is about $50- cheaper than the Mantis but has virtually the same drive and also the same engine. I'm 72 and was able to handle it well, including turns. Fear not it HAS the power.you just have to learn the technique of tilling with this machine. Can't wait to cultivate this Spring once things are growing.the narrow width should make it very easy to nail those little weeds that pop up in between the plants. Get one.you won't be disappointed. Bought at Home Depot and they have a liberal 30-day return policy if it doesn't measure up for you. My garden(s) are 8X24 and 8X16 and took approx.

Now that I know how to maneuver with this beast I think I can shorten that time appreciably this Spring. Takes up VERY LITTLE ROOM to store btw.a big PLUS for me in my shed. Now I can simply lift it into it's parking spot for the winter. Takes up only about 1/2 the length of the former machine and about 1/2 the height with the handles folded down.love it. I was asked, 'What would you like as a birthday gift?' I had to think. My brother used to till my garden with a big tiller each spring, a machine I could never have handled.

Without any idea that small tillers existed, I wishfully wrote the description of the Honda Tiller.a machine that could dig up the dirt wherever I wanted to plant in the yard, powerful yet one I could handle, that starts easily, not too heavy for me to carry, that would sift up the dirt and allow me to mix compost in with it, so that I could easily plant my bedding plants, bushes, or flower and vegetable seeds. I also wanted it to be a size that would nicely go between rows of growing plant to mulch and remove weeds during the growing season. My husband listened and presented me with my first small Honda tiller! I was amazed and overjoyed because I truly didn't know at the time such a tool existed. I was dreaming outside the box when I wrote down my wish. That was about 18 years ago! I used it every year and loaned it out many times.

Finally it wore out and as I was planting again this last Spring, and came inside the house with a forlorn face. 'I miss my tiller.' I thought someone who just celebrated her 69th birthday should be past the 'longing for a new tiller' age, but to my surprise that is just what I received a brand new Honda FG110!

I enjoy using it so much! I also have the edger that went with the first one, and I hope it will also fit my new tiller machine. I purchased an FG110 today and promptly put it to use in my garden. I needed a small tiller to keep the earth turned and weeds under control between rows and this fits the bill perfectly.

After putting the oil in and a tank of gas, priming and choking, the engine started on the 2nd pull with minimal effort. The ground in the garden was tilled prior to planting with a 3 pt. Hitch mounted tiller on my tractor so other than compaction from walking the dirt wasn't too difficult to till. The Honda made very quick work loosening the top 4' of dirt and chewing up what weeds had sprouted. I have a large 50 year old Ariens rear tine tiller but the Honda is so much easier to use in this application. I think with the use I have in mind and proper maintenance this tiller should last for many years. I've only used this tiller twice, so my review is not based on extensive use.

It is easy to start, much easier than my old mantis. It usually starts on the first or second pull when it is cold, the first pull after that. It seems to have good power.

I use it mainly in raised garden beds and it had no problem chewing up the soil. I did use it to till some very hard soil in one bed and it didn't have all that much of a problem getting through that either.

I've heard good things about Honda engines and I really didn't want a 2-stroke like my mantis, so this fit the bill. My old mantis wasn't a bad tiller by any means, but years of using gas with ethanol in it has resulted in more than a few repairs. This tiller can take an ethanol content of up to 10%, but I plan on using non-ethanol gas. The only thing I don't like about it is the position of the on/off switch.

I seem to hit that switch and turn the tiller off quite often when I grab that handle to move the tiller. It isn't a big deal, you just have to learn not to hit the switch when grabbing the handle. So far I like and recommend the product.

(Full disclosure: I am NOT a paid Honda spokesperson.) At age 67, I decided that my days of spade fork / iron rake chopping were behind me, and thought I’d treat myself to my first tiller. I did my window shopping online, and was tempted by 'beefier-looking' models that were $100 cheaper. And truth be told, I even laughed out loud when I personally scoped out this puppy – it looked like a child’s toy! Reviews were virtually all positive, but I kept trying to find a reason NOT to buy it – especially considering the price tag. But as already stated here: “You get what you pay for.” Sssooo Got it home, cranked it up, and it even SOUNDED like a toy! (Aughhh, what have I done?!) Then I squeezed the throttle and introduced it to my 10’ X 20’ compacted vegetable garden bed.

We went north / south, then east / west on less than a tank of gas. And what remained was a bed of ankle-deep “powder.” So soft and pliable, I had difficulty walking through it.

I’ve used full-sized tillers before, and this is every bit as effective. Even at 29 pounds!! One of my best investments ever. Easy to unpack. Fully assembled. Easy, fast starting.

Tines remain stopped at start up and at idle. Low engine noise with four stroke engine (no mixing oil and gas). Light to carry with one hand.

Compact stores easily with or without folding the handle. Tine RPM's are fast and discharges soil from the ground being tilled. Tines remain rigidly aligned and tight (no wobbling). Powerful enough to dig into combination clay, dirt and compost. Will tear through small finger sized tree roots. Easy handling while tilling, will not stretch out or tire the operator's arms or shoulders. Digs into soil despite the light weight.

I own a 5 -1/2 hp. Troy built and found it to be too big to use in this years 12 X 8 ft. The Honda FG110 is the perfect solution for my soil preparation needs.

I am very satisfied with my selection of this power tool. My wife and I have had a sizable garden for the past 8 years. We both have very busy professional lives and, unfortunately, not enough time for many of the things we enjoy. This was especially true of maintaining our garden.

We simply could not stay ahead of the weeds. Our frustration had reached a peak and we were considering waiting until after retirement when we would have plenty of time to maintain our garden. This was not what we really wanted as we have enjoyed the vegetables from our garden year round. Searching on the internet for any other solution rather than giving up the garden, I came across the Honda FG110 mini-tiller. This tiller, I thought, would be small enough to navigate between rows and easy enough for either my wife or me to handle. I have always trusted Honda engines and decided that this might be the answer to relieving my frustrations. I used the tiller for the entire season of 2016.

Anything I might write about this tiller would be an understatement. It starts easily. It handles with little effort. And, most important, it destroys weeds without mercy. I simply could not be more pleased.

This little, but powerful, tiller has returned the joy of gardening for both my wife and me. We both look forward to the 2017 season already anticipating the results of our labor with so much less effort. I had been wanting a small tiller to use in my garden area and my husband purchased me a FG110. Even though it is February, I was able to till up my garden area today and I am so happy with it.

Set up was a breeze - just had to tighten up the handles, fill it up with oil and gas and on the second pull it started right up! It was so easy to use and handled great. My garden area looks great and will be ready for planting come spring time. I plan on using it in my flower beds next. We live in an area and have red clay soil which can be a problem to deal with but the FG110 went right through it. I was amazed at how well it worked up the soil.

Would highly recommend! The best of the small tillers. This is my second purchase of this model. The first one I gave to my son.

I starts with ease, usually on the 2nd pull. A 4-stroke engine so no oil/gas mixture needed. Some descriptions say it can't go very deep, but, I haven't found that to be the case. Of course that depends upon the soil. I previously owned a Mantis which was hard to start and a 2-stroke requiring that oil/gas mix.

Had to replace the drive shaft which broke in my slightly rocky soil. No such problems with the Honda. Just a great machine.

I bought this machine because of the wonderful reviews on Home Depot's website. I cannot believe that such a small machine is so powerful. My only wish was that the tines it came with were the digging kind.

The ones it came with were difficult to start digging with. Outside of that I would recommend this machine to anyone with a small garden. The area that I am working in is 225 square feet and it is perfect for that size. I am really pleased with the craftsmanship and ease of use of this machine. I would definitely suggest that you use ear protection because it is a loud little machine. I'm a female who loves gardening. My husband usually uses his full size tiller throughout the growing season, which is a pain.

I've been wanting this smaller tiller for years that I can handle. I finally got it, and I love it even more than I thought I would. It's so easy to maneuver between the plants. It's lightweight, so I can pick it up and carry it or I can just roll it on it's wheels.

It cuts deeper than I thought it would. It's made my gardening a complete joy again. No more hours of weeding between the rows. Thank you Honda!!! I purchased the FG100 17 years ago.

It was the best little tiller I've ever had! I used it to weed mostly but also to dig up my 4 raised beds every year. It broke up the soil to very fine. One day it just would not start.

That being unusual as it always started in one or two pulls. Turns out the poor thing just wore out! After 17 years I could not garden without this little powerhouse.

So, my husband purchased me the FG110 and it looks and works just like the old one! When I first purchased the original one from a Home Depot, I noticed a Landscape truck with someone loading up this kind of little tiller.

I asked him his opinion of it and he said it was the only kind he would have as it was so durable and great quality. He had workers using them very hard and it would take anything you could throw at it. I was convinced if a pro would use it I had to try one. I am very glad I did and would recommend it to anyone into gardening.

This little tiller eats up the competition. I have used this tiller to chew right through turf grass and it barely bats an eyelash. I recently used to till a 500 sq. Playground area and it not only ate up large chunks of turf mixed in with dry clay but it did so on one tank of gas. The ease of operation is superb. If you can run a weedeater then you can run this little gem.

Out performs tiller twice its width. I can't say enough good things about this tiller. If your remotely considering purchasing it then do so NOW.

You will not be disappointed! I found myself needing a rototiller again and momentarily thought about renting again from Home Depot as I had done 6 weeks ago. But then thought, I'm going to have need of a tiller at least two to three times per year so maybe I should look for a rear tine rototiller. The more I looked at them and the how expensive they were, the more I thought this is overkill. I was a little concerned about buying a mini tiller because I feared they wouldn't hold up for breaking fresh ground for flower beds and gardens. However, the more I read the reviews online on the Honda, the more I felt this might be just the answer to my needs.

So I went to Home Depot and purchased on last Saturday. I unboxed it yesterday and it took all of 5 minutes to get the gas and oil in it and extend the handle bars for use. It didn't start on the first pull like my Honda mower always does, but it didn't take too many. I began using on a part of my yard up next to the house to make a flower bed that measures around 3' x 21'.

The ground hadn't been broken since the house was built 25 yrs ago, but this little tiller torn right into and prepared the ground for me. It is definetely more work that a rear time tiller that does all of the work for you, but no big deal. Just took a little longer with a little more effort. Overall, loved it.

The great thing about this small tiller is that it is so versatile and can be used for lots of small projects around the house or just freshening our current beds each year. I'm very glad I purchased this unit and am confident it will last a long time with it being a Honda. I just built two 4x8' Cedar raised bed garden boxes made of 2x10' rough-sawn planks. I spent quite a few hours digging the flat areas in the slope where the boxes went, adding rock for drainage under the planks, and refilling with compost and topsoil.

It was a lot of work in near 100F Missouri heat and I was READY to be finished! So today I went to use my 2-stroke mini-tiller by another known (but cheaper) maker and for the last time it failed me again.

I finally got sick of working on it. Enough is enough. I got online, compared the different 4-stoke mini-tillers that were offered and quickly made my decision. I haven't owned a Honda since having an ATC90 three-wheeler motorcycle back in about 1980! It was bought used then and was extremely easy to use and reliable to drag camping/fishing supplies around out in the country as a kid etc.

Remembering that made me think that it was probably a good time to give another Honda a chance - this time a mini-tiller! I'm glad I did. I easily had it running five minutes after unpacking it and now have my tilling finished instead of fighting with the other 2-stroke junker that I'm retiring. This is an EXCELLENT machine.

I can already tell after using it once that it was a good decision to buy it. Having been a machinist for 24 years and a heavy equipment mechanic before that, I'm a fairly competent judge of mechanical and manufacturing quality. Recently purchased this tiller and used it the same day. Setup was easy, just attach the handle (no tools required) and fill with oil (2.7 oz included) and gasoline.

Set up and starting procedure was explained well in the provided manual. Just took a little while to get used to operating it for the soil conditions but that is fairly common for most tillers. Will us it mainly to cultivate around garden plants and smaller beds where I need more manuverability than my larger tiller has. Very impressed with the performance tilling hard packed soil. Price is fairly expensive but I'm not getting any younger and this will save time/effort to maintain the gardens. It is also easy to transport and lift in/out of the vehicles. Appears to be a very solid and powerful tiller for it's size.

I have owned both a Mantis and Troy-Bilt. My Mantis was purchased probably30 years ago. This is the best cultivator I have had. This morning I tightened the handle, which was the only assembly required. That was a chore. I had to get my daughter to hold the outside screw while I tightened from the inside. It took about 10 pulls to start it the first time (new gas and oil were added).

After that, it worked like a charm. I needed to weed between flower rows. From the moment I put it in the garden, I could see the difference. Lots of power and digging ability. A rock stopped the tines, but it was easily removed. The machine ran, but the tines stopped. This evening I cleaned out the garage and washed it down.

I had to start it again to see if it worked. Purred for me. I am a 61-year-old woman and easily picked it up and lifted it over the electric garden fence. I could not be more pleased. My wife and I have a flower bed that was let go before we moved into our new house. We have struggled for two years to keep it clean and free of weeds.

Last year after two days of digging I was thinking to myself I should buy a mini tiller. This year when my wife started digging again and saying how hard it was I decided that was it and started research on a small tiller. After about 5 minutes on the google I quickly chose the Honda FG 110. It was on hand at my local home depot, was priced lower than the Mantis by $100 for the comparable model and it has a Honda engine. Haven't been disapointed with a Honda yet.

Today is day one after filling my tiller with oil and gas and tightening the handles on the tiller. I must say even the packaging was done well with a box large enough to hold the mostly assembled product with thoughtfully placed handles. It was easy to get out of the box and required less than 5 minutes to get ready to use from box to ground. There wasn't any tools required to assemble and even though it was not made in the US it wasn't made in China either and that's all I need to know. I took it into my flower bed and it started on pull 1 the first time and every time there after. I was amazed at how well it does cleaning out tall pieces of grass in clumps as well as loosening even compact dry soil.

I have now ran almost a tank of gas in it and find this to be one of the most valuable tools in my garden shed! One comment would be that it is a bit hard to clean out between the tines but thankfully you can tip it on the front protector bar and work on it easily while it sits on a flat surface. Thanks Honda I hope the quality is as I suspect it to be from a durability standpoint. I'm looking forward to many uses. I read all 77 reviews before buying, and did consider Cub Cadet and Echo. Most of the reviews were positive, so I decided that the 30 day return policy was worth the chance.

Plus, I did buy the Home Depot Warranty so that I have 5 years of coverage, $60 more. My garden is large, and I have a big rear tine tiller to break it up.

Some of my vegetables can be planted far enough apart to run my big tiller down the rows. Others grow up and out, such as the peas, and they need a smaller tiller. This one did the job well, once I figured out how to steer it. It did pull on my back muscles quite a bit, but you have to finesses it when working in close quarters. The motor cranked right up, the cultivator did not stutter, and I was ecstatic with my results and how quickly I could do a big job, one that would have taken 25 hours or more by hand. I know, because that is how I started.

This tool, like my tiller, will change the way that I garden for the positive. I have back troubles, and sometimes pass up gardening opportunities because of the after planting gardening maintenance demands. It is a quality product as best I can tell, and the first three hours made a huge impression. I was very impressed with the power the four stroke motor had for it's size and how easy it was to start. I've been borrowing my neighbor's 'top of the line' 2-stroke competitor for 4 years and what struggle to get it started cold. The Honda motor on this tiller was a breeze to start every time, almost effortless to pull. Out of the box after filling the crankcase with oil and tank with gas I primed it and started second pull. Great little tiller to have. I till an area of 30ft.

For my garden and had tilled over twice in an hour flat. Now the wife has all kind of projects for this machine. The only problem I have is the wheel assembly and depth guide are a little hard to adjust and get your fingers on, but don't let this stop you from buying this great little machine. Absolutely love my new 'toy'! I'm a 62 year old grandma who loves to work in the yard but digging was getting the best of me. Decided to purchase a tiller to prevent some aches and pains. Initially thought electric because I was afraid I might have trouble starting or using a gas powered machine.

Our local farm store offered the Cadet which was cheaper. Much thought.lots of reading reviews.ordered my Honda online and picked up at Home Depot.

My decision was made based on good reviews and easy return policy at Home Depot if I didn't like. My son put it together and showed me how. I couldn't be happier. I've tilled my sister's garden plot, my own and working on several other projects. It's not loud.easy to start and a powerful little workhorse. Gave 4 stars on features due to no adjustment in handlebars for height.fits me fine but someone short might be issue. If you are a gardener, a good tiller will save you time and sore muscles.

My last tiller was a 2 stroke and lasted close to 2 decades, but was always a challenge to start. It became a maintenance headache and finally failed to start. I decided to go with the Honda due to the 4 stroke engine and the great Honda reputation. I haven't regretted this decision. Not mixing gas and oil is great, as I don't have to have separate gas and gas/oil containers.

This engine burns cleaner and is slightly quieter. The best part is that it is better at tilling, works through anything, and doesn't seem to get the tines clogged as much as my previous tiller. The width is perfect for working between plants. I don't use the wheels, as this machine is easy to tote around the yard by hand.

If you haven't used a tiller in the garden before, you will find this tiller to be a valuable new tool! My neighbors love to borrow it. I bought this Honda FG110 tiller because its the only brand engine I trust after being dissatisfied with the other major brand engine in other outdoor equipment I have owned. The owner's manual is clearly written, well illustrated and covers every detail. This is my first use of a tiller so I didn't know what to expect. The little engine surprised me with its power which I used to turn over weeds and grass in hard soil over an area of 40'x20'.

It had the power to grind through the hard ground and small tree roots without any noticeable slowing of the engine. Being a lightweight tiller, it did bounce around over the grass as it moved forward but the tiller dug in nicely as I pulled it back. There were some stubborn clumps of weeds that I had to concentrate on by going over them several times to dig them out but I was using this tiller for a purpose that really calls for a heavy duty machine. I accomplished what I set out to do and I was very satisfied with the job this little guy. I believe I selected the right tiller at a very reasonable price. I have not been able to use this tiller yet. It was shipped missing a left side tiller tine lock pin.

One of the two left side tines was loose in the box. I have contacted Home Depot-on-line sales about this and hope to hear from them soon. My opinion is that whoever placed the tiller in the box for factory shipment did so without the lock pin in place. It is most unlikely that it fell off in the box and slipped out through a crack. I tested this with the lock pin on the right side.

Not easy to remove. Have owned one for 10 or 12 years.clutch went out and our kids thought we should have a new one. Used it yesterday tilled a 400 sq foot garden in 30 minutes. The new tines work much better than the old ones (new tines have more teeth). Started on second pull.

My husband used it without the drag bar and it didn't dig in. Would highly recommend it. Plan to fix the old one and when one of our kids need to borrow they can use it. One recommendation is to beef up the handle.after 6 or 7 years we needed to have the old one repaired. BOUGHT THIS MACHINE IN MAY '14, USED IT 1 HR.

PUT IT AWAY FOR NEXT YR. JUST GOT IT OUT - MAY '15. I FOLLOWED ALL START UP & STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS, I USE POWER TOOLS FOR A LIVING, AND KNOW HOW TO STORE AND MAINTAIN THEM. I PUT FRESH GAS & OIL IN IT. WOULDN'T START.

WENT BACK, WOULDN'T START, TOOK OF AIR FILTER AND THE OIL WAS POURING OUT OF IT. HOPEFULLY HONDA WILL REPLACE OR FIX!

OTHERWISE, I'M OUT $380.00 - NOT HAPPY AT THE MOMENT. THIS IS WHY I RATED QUALITY 1 STAR. This is our THIRD mini tiller.The first tiller lasted 8-10 years and ran flawlessly til age caught up with it.

The second tiller ran just as well -BUT- only lasted 3 YEARS when something broke internally and put a small hole in the top of the engine. VERY DISAPPOINTED in the life span of the second tiller. (frankly expected more durability from HONDA) Hopefully the second tillers problem was a fluke and this new on is as good or better than the original, if not it will be my last Honda tiller.

Would I recommend this tiller?? ABSOLUTELY THEY ARE A GREAT PRODUCT. I have only used this maybe ten minutes due to ground being to wet. I have a Honda riding mower that I have had for years and this cultivator has the reliable Honda motor.

When I saw it I didn't think there was anyway it could dig up ground because of it's size. I was wrong!! I took the wheels off and if you will take the time to read the directions you will see that if you tilt it forward it will dig deeper and tilt it back and it will be more shallow. I recommend a shallow pass the first time or two on you row.

It will dig while pulling it backwards or going forward. I found it easy to control. I just wish the accessories weren't so expensive. I really want the dethatcher but just not going to put that kind of money out for one. I watched people use dethatcher on line and it looks like it does a good job.

Good machine Honda. Now that my hand is permanently damaged from a car crash, I can't shovel, pick, or even use a big rototiller in a straight line. I can't even squeeze the throttle cable on a local rental.

However, I can use the FG110 long enough to get tired for other reasons; it is the easiest rototiller to use (perhaps in existence). Vibrations don't rip up my hands, the pull start is easy, it is light but not so light as to jump like a rabbit (problem with the light electric model by another company), and because it is so small, I can use it at all kinds of angles and drive it right out of a hole - where I'd be stuck if I had a big unit. It basically replaces all hand tools for me, then I can follow up with hand tools after the soil is broken up. Also, being a four stroke Honda, it idles 3500rpms quietly, and need not be used at full throttle depending on the work you are doing (but quieter at full throttle than most similar equipment) Change oil more often than they recommend at first, since at 2.7oz it is cheap to do, so that the engine breaks in nicely - it went through quite a bit of metal shavings and turning gray fast, but I change the oil every time I cleaned up the machine, and now the oil is looking pretty good. I found forum entries on the engines dying when almost brand new (almost exclusively) - so I took this preventative measure to break mine in well. As just told by a repair shop, if you don't like the pins that hold the tines in place, you can switch them to (#8?) bolts and lock nuts if you don't generally take the tines off, and with 'trailer pins' if you clean the tines often.

Also, oil the axle so the tines don't get stuck. Only install two of the four tines for the job, either facing in (safe) or facing out (really powerful).

Be prepared to clean and re-oil the oil-type foam air filter more often than you would expect if you work in dust. That's a weak point - make certain the cover is snapped completely back into place to avoid dirt getting into the engine by bypassing the air filter. Be prepared to maintain it daily while breaking new ground. Great machine, I'd highly recommend it for all small/medium jobs, and even one-time initial cultivation of a big garden, letting it rest and check it periodically - or rent a monster for a day and follow up with this unit. Optional accessories are prohibitively expensive, so don't buy it thinking you'll get all those additional functions. However, what comes in the box is plenty.

Today we started getting our garden ready, last year we used a shovel took us a few days to turn the soil over and there was still a lot of large junks of dirt. This year I decided to look into purchasing a tiller.

And let me tell you this little creature worked like a charm. I'm really glad I decided to go to Home Deport and buy one. There was so many tillers to pick from for less money. I knew Honda has a always had great motors and stand behind there product. I knew I would pay alittle more but it was so worth it. I finished in 2 hours, my wife even took a few turns with it. The soil is so soft and is ready for out plants.

In the future I will need to think about purchasing a grass cutter for my wife since she cuts the grass. I will need to save for that one. Very Impressed with the little guy Rick.

Bought this small tiller so the wife could make and plant a flower bed. This tiller is excellent! Works very good in small tight places around our home. The tines cut right through the earth with ease. Plus it will not wear you out like the larger tillers will.

I just ordered the edger since this tiller has many accessories you can purchase. No tools required to change out with other accessories. Yes this tiller was expensive but your buying a Honda quality tool. Worth every penny! Thanks again HONDA.

TheTiller (FAAA 1389405) works well and behaves as I expect from a Honda product. It was a replacement for the same model (FAAA 1389292) purchased the previous day which was defective - out of the sealed box - as follows: The Drag bar clevis pin was not in the box, one of the two handlebar knobs and washers was thrown into the box rather than being attached to its companion bolt. When filled with fresh gasoline and with oil the tiller started reasonably easily and had a steady idle.

When warmed up it would go to the expected high rpm under zero load but when used to till light soil it continually stalled. Home Depot provided an immediate replacement. We opened to box in the store and all components were properly installed. It worked as expected once oil and gasoline were added. I hope that this lack of quality control is just a rare example.

Rented a Honda Mini-tiller some years ago and liked it a lot. Now I have three 6'x6' raised beds and just did not want to hand till. So, read all the reviews, and then went to Home Depot and purchased an FG110 off the shelf.

Got it home and unboxed it, filled it with the provided oil, and then gassed it up. Started right up when I remembered to turn the ignition to the on position (duh), and the work was quick and easy. Worked best for me by making three quick passes, and the whole job didn't take long at all. I am 68 and in decent shape, and the FG110 is light enough for me to handle easily and to reposition in small spaces and make turns with. With it's light weight I was surprised at how easily it dug right in and pulverized my raised beds.

I am anxious to now dig in some compost and fertilizer so that we can plant in a few weeks. Real happy with this purchase. After just 3 years of light use (only used in my small garden) I'm told the gear box is shot and will cost close to $200 to fix. Sorry just not worth it. In addition Honda (nor anyone else) does not make a replacement gear box so I could repair it myself. I thought Honda was a reputable brand but I have other Honda small engines that just do not perform that well. The biggest problem is that when they get hot they will NOT restart until they have cooled off.

Save your money, get a Mantis! Needless to say I am extremely disappointed in this tiller!!! I bought this product for a small garden (10x15) because I was tired of borrowing the neighbors much larger rear tine tiller which is a great product also but not exactly very maneuverable in a small setting like what I want.

I had looked at a few competitors products this one being neck in neck with another one that was sold at a local dealer. They recommended this one over the other unit which I liked and I can totally see why. This thing is very easy to use, much quieter because of the 4 stroke engine and tills very evenly with lots of torque, the attachments you can get for this make it worth the price too. I have put this through a lot of use this summer; prepping a actually fairly large area for grass seed, spreading manure in my garden as well as breaking some new soil to add another row to my garden. It does all of these tasks very well, maintenance is easy on it as well.

Cleaning it is a breeze because the tines come off very easily pull the cotter pins and they slide right off. Yes you can go to any big box store and buy one of the less expensive mini tiller for roughly half the price of this one but I guarantee you this; it won't perform as well be as easy to use or some may have some more toys like electric start (which I think they could offer but it starts so easy it's not really needed) but it won't have the quality you get with this Honda. If you're looking for a small easy to use tiller with even an occasional large area to till go for it buy it.

You won't be disappointed. I wanted a tiller to use around the house but didn't want a full size machine. Purchased this little baby about 6-7 years ago and it just keeps going and going. Has never needed repairs, gets used 4-5 times a year for 1-4 hours and just keeps doing what I had hoped it would. Have had several other Honda products over the years and, like everything else, you get what you pay for. Excellent piece of equipment, would not hesitate to recommend it for anyone looking for a versatile, yet compact, tiller.

I purchased this mini tiller on May 5th, 2011. This tiller actually ran quite well for the first two years (warranty period). I was also very pleased with its performance. Then slightly less than 1 month into the post warranty period it just stopped working. Have been unable to start ever since.

Took it to a local qualified repair service facility - they were unable to repair. They told me I would be better off buying a new one. At $350.00 you would think it would last beyond the warranty period. Do not plan to purchase another.

With much trepidation I purchased the FG110 mini-tiller. I have a small garden 20 x30 and don't have a lot of time to work in it. I have been considering small tillers just for cultivation use as I have a large tractor mounted tiller to work the soil in the spring.

I have always felt that Honda mean't quality and was not worried that the FG110 would be shoddy made, it's just that I thought the fast spinning tines of the small tiller would throw dirt everywhere and bounce around making it had to cultivate close to my plants. Boy was I wrong.

I am so pleased with the tiller that I wrote this and have never wrote a review before. One thing that I think would be an improvement is to make a rotating assembly for use of either the dept bar or the transport wheels that the operator could easily pull a spring pin and turn. I usually do not write reviews but this Honda is a tank for its size. I was clearing new ground full of old privet hedge roots and rocks. I should have used a heavy duty rear tine tiller but could not find one to suit me. Therefore I decided to use my little Honda knowing i would probably screw up the transmission.

I cut the roots with an axe but still had a lot of them in the ground. The Honda eat roots up to 1 inch up. It would throw out rocks the size of half a brick. I anticipated the transmission going out or the clutch burning up.

Neither happened. The engine is small but very powerful and starts every time. I would not recommend this Honda for what I did, but it just shows the power and the quality of transmission and clutch. Pay the extra price and get the best little tiller out there. Hand kept hitting the on/off switch.turning tiller off during operation.

Have to take the wheels off to use. When operating tiller with the wheels off (as manual states to do).when you stop, the tiller is not stable and has a tendency to fall over. To move this piece of equipment, you have to go back to where you started to get the wheels.take them back to where the tiller is to re-install them. We did like the fact the engine was a 4 cycle & that you could see the fuel level in the tank. We originally were going to purchase a different tiller, but it was going to take 21 days for it to come in. The representative of this Honda dealer.Ralph Helm, Inc., in Elgin, IL explained the points of the Honda FG110 and we decided to try it. What made it even better was Mr.

Helm told our representative, Dave to make sure and tell us if we were not happy with the Honda FG110 and we brought it back within five days.they would take it back and order a different tiller for us. Versus making a purchase from a big box store. After our hard winter. Lots of rain and snow, the ground was like a rock. This is the year I decided to buy my own tiller. I'm 64 years old and have had a garden every year for the past 44 years. I did a lot of research on line and decided on the Honda mini tiller.

I purchased it at Stark Street Lawn and Garden in Portland, OR. I wanted a 4-Stroke engine for sure. ( I had enough of those horrible 2-stroke ones, the smell, the noise the mixing of the gas.) This little Honda is easy to start, has lots and lots of power, and is lite weight. The engine is right over the tines, so it is well balanced too. I just finished tilling my garden and now it's on to new flower beds! I just love this machine! And, if your wondering about this glowing review. No I do not work for Honda.

Tie up or restrain long hair. Turn Engine Off When Not Tilling If you need to leave the tiller for any reason, even just to inspect the area ahead, always stop the engine. An adult should also be present during refueling and maintenance. In fact, it’s up to the adult owner to make sure the tiller is properly maintained and kept in safe operating condition. The labels shown here contain important safety information.

Please read them carefully. These labels are considered permanent parts of your Honda tiller.

If a label comes off or becomes hard to read, contact an authorized Honda servicing dealer for a replacement. Releasing the throttle lever reduces engine speed and stops the tiller tines from turning. The tiller will have the greatest tilling force at maximum engine speed. At idle, the tilling tines should stop rotating.

Drag Bar The drag bar is used to control the forward action of the turning tiller tines. The drag bar can be adjusted to control the tilling depth of the tines.

Narrow Cultivating The two outer tines can be removed to give you a narrower cultivating width. Physical and Mental Readiness You must be alert and in good physical condition to operate the tiller. Do not operate the tiller if you are tired, ill, or under the influence of alcohol, medication, or any substance that might impair your vision, dexterity, or judgment. Check the oil level (see page 18). Running the engine with a low oil level can cause engine damage.

Check the air filter (see page 19). A dirty air filter will restrict air flow to the carburetor, reducing engine and tiller performance. Sudden vibration is a sign of a hazardous problem, such as a loose or damaged tilling tines (or tiller attachment), hidden objects in the soil, or the ground that is too hard to till. Place your left hand on the carrying handle and hold it firmly. Make sure your feet are away from the tiller tines. With your right hand, pull the starter grip lightly until you feel resistance, then pull briskly. Return the starter grip gently.

Lower the front of the tiller until the tines begin to dig into the ground. Lower the handle slightly so the front of the tiller is raised about 6 8°. To get the maximum advantage from the tiller, hold the tiller at this angle while you are tilling the ground. OPERATION Narrow Cultivating The two outer tines can be removed to give you a narrower cultivating width. This width is approximately 5 inches. This gives you the ability to get between very closely spaced plants.

To remove the two outer tines, pull the lock pins out of the holes in the end of the tine shaft. Remember that your authorized Honda servicing dealer knows your tiller best and is fully equipped to maintain and repair it. (3) Log hours of operation to determine proper maintenance intervals. Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick. Tip the tiller to drain the used oil through the oil filler opening. Allow the used oil to drain completely. Please dispose of used motor oil in a manner that is compatible with the environment.

Reinstall the air cleaner cover by hooking the two lower tabs on the bottom of the cover and snapping the upper tab into place. SERVICING YOUR TILLER AIR CLEANER BASE CHOKE LEVER FILTER. SERVICING YOUR TILLER Air Filter Cleaning A dirty air filter restricts air flow to the carburetor, reducing engine performance.

If you operate the engine in very dusty areas, clean the air filter after each refueling. Remove the air filter (see page 19).

Overtightening the spark plug can damage the threads in the cylinder head. Attach the spark plug cap. Install the fan cover, and tighten the 5 mm hex bolt securely SERVICING YOUR TILLER FAN COVER 5 mm HEX BOLT SPARK PLUG SPARK PLUG CAP. SERVICING YOUR TILLER Spark Arrester Service (Optional) The spark arrester must be serviced every 100 hours to keep it functioning as designed. If the engine has been running, the muffler will be very hot. Allow the muffler to cool before servicing the spark arrester.

Adjustment procedure below. Carburetor Adjustment A tachometer is required to adjust the idle speed. If you do not have one, take your tiller to an authorized Honda servicing dealer to perform idle speed adjustment.

Start the engine outdoors, and allow it to warm up to normal operating temperature. To refuel, set the tiller on level ground. Remove the fuel tank cap, and fill the tank with gasoline to the bottom of the filler neck. Refuel carefully to avoid spilling fuel.

Do not overfill. There should not be fuel in the filler neck.

After refueling, tighten the fuel tank cap securely. Fuel Filter and Fuel Tank Cleaning 1. Remove the fuel tank cap. Tip the tiller as shown and empty the fuel tank into an approved gasoline container.

Use a funnel to avoid spilling gasoline. Pull the fuel filter out through the fuel filler neck by hooking the black fuel supply tube with a piece of wire, such as a partly straightened paper clip. Place the tiller on the left side as shown. Remove the lock pin from the right side tine shaft by turning it UP a and pulling it out b as shown. THE IMPORTANCE OF PROPER ASSEMBLY Proper assembly is essential to operator safety and the reliability of the machine. Any error or oversight made by the person assembling and servicing a unit can result in faulty operation, damage to the machine, or injury to the operator.

Add oil from the bottle of oil supplied with the tiller before attempting to start the engine. Working on a level surface, tip the tiller on its carrying handlebar as shown.

Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick. Stop the engine and allow it to cool. After the tiller is clean and dry, touch up any damaged paint, and coat other areas that may rust with a light film of oil.

Lubricate the throttle cable core with a silicone spray lubricant. STORAGE PRECAUTIONS If your tiller will be stored with gasoline in the fuel tank and carburetor, it is important to reduce the hazard of gasoline vapor ignition.

Select a well-ventilated storage area away from any appliance that operates with a flame, such as a furnace, water heater, or clothes dryer. BEFORE LOADING If the engine has been running, allow it to cool for at least 15 minutes before loading the tiller on the transport vehicle.

A hot engine and exhaust system can burn you and can ignite some materials. Turn the engine switch to the OFF position. Air filter dirty or restricted. Fuel filter dirty or restricted. Throttle cable out of adjustment, broken, or bent.

Tiller Tines (or Attachment) Won’t Stop Turning When Throttle is at SLOW Position Possible Cause Faulty throttle control or cable; throttle cable out of adjustment or bent. High altitude performance can be improved by specific modifications to the carburetor. If you always operate your tiller at altitudes above 5,000 feet (1,500 meters), have your servicing dealer perform this carburetor modification.

This engine, when operated at high altitude, with carburetor modifications for high altitude use, will meet each emission standard throughout its useful life. TECHNICAL & CONSUMER INFORMATION OXYGENATED FUELS Some conventional gasolines are being blended with alcohol or an ether compound.

These gasolines are collectively referred to as oxygenated fuels. To meet clean air standards, some areas of the USA and Canada use oxygenated fuels to help reduce emissions.
