Farmers, growers, processors and industry representatives are being asked for their views from 31 August for 10 weeks on the role of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB). The AHDB is a UK statutory levy board, funded by farmers, growers and others in the supply chain. As we leave the EU, there is an opportunity to ensure that the sectors that the AHDB covers are as competitive as possible. This review will look at the AHDB’s purpose and priorities, its strengths and where improvements need to be made. This is a joint 10-week exercise covering England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The request for views will close on 9 November. Hi I wonder whether anyone can help with a couple of problems I have with my MF20 baler. This was working fine until the end of the last season when the chain which drives the pick up got jammed. This cause the main drive chain from the flywheel to break - just one link damaged. I have managed to fix the problem which caused the smaller chain to jam and have been able to repair the main chain. I set up the timing so that the needles entered the bale chamber at the correct point in the passage of the packer ram. However after about 20 or so bales the timing had gone wrong so that the needles entered the chamber late.

Although the knot tied OK the needles did not retract early enough to move the safety device. This stopped the Ram and broke the shear bolt. My first question is what would have caused the timing to go out? I checked the routing of the chain. I had put it under the small sprocket which is attached to the side of the bale chanber which you adjust and over the other small sprocket. I thought that this is how it was threaded before.

The picture in the manual suggests that it should go under both these sprockets. Is this correct? The problem is that I can no longer tension the chain. Should I remove a link - so that I can set tension? Or was my original routing of the chain correct? Thanks Harold C. I have a copy of the manual. I have now re-threaded the chain as per the pictures - reset the timing and having checked this several times by hand, connected it to my tractor and run it in the barn. I have 'triggered' the knotter a dozen times and all seems OK. The tension adjuster is at its limit. I can only assume either that it was too loose before I broke the chain or that the chain has stretched slightly.

The link which broke was replaced by a removable one. I don't think the number of links in the chain is significant - just the number between the two sprockets on the drive side.
