​ The HondaJet’s Garmin G3000 avionics package, fully integrated with aircraft engines and systems, is one of the most advanced versions yet developed. Honda Aircraft Co. engineers took full advantage of its capabilities, yet they also recognized the need to streamline command and control to minimize head-down time for single pilot operations. The main user interface includes three 14-in., 1,280 x 800-pixel, LED back-lighted flat-panel displays, a glareshield-mounted flight guidance control panel, two touch-screen CDUs and eight thumb controls on the yoke.

The touch-screen controls provide excellent hand/eye coordination and the icons are quite intuitive. The cockpit design philosophy is hands-on-throttles-and-stick whenever possible, minimizing the need to look down and use the touch-screen controls.

We became comfortable with most functions after two flights in the aircraft with little formal training. All this ties into dual integrated avionics hub boxes that internally host dual solid-state AHRS and magnetometers, dual VHF transceivers, dual VOR/LOC/glideslope and space-based augmentation GPS receivers, dual flight director, flight guidance and smart autopilot servo functions. Tying to the avionics hubs are dual data concentrators that link to aircraft systems and engines, dual digital audio processors for pilot headsets and speakers, dual ADS-B capable Mode S transponders, a single solid-state 320-nm range weather radar and single hybrid TCAS I/ADS-B traffic collision and warning system. Aerospace Systems provides dual Smartprobe pitot/static/angle of attack air data sensors and Meggitt furnishes the integrated standby instrument system with emergency power supply. Options include synthetic vision PFDs with flight path markers (a virtual must for single-pilot operations in BCA’s opinion), Doppler turbulence detection and ground clutter suppression upgrades for the weather radar, a SiriusXM satellite weather receiver, Garmin hybrid TCAS II/ADS-B traffic system with dual TCAS II-compatible Mode S transponders that coordinate avoidance messages between proximate aircraft, a VDL mode 2 transceiver to support CPDLC, Iridium transceiver, cockpit voice and flight data recorder, ADF and DME radios, and Garmin radio altimeter.
